New MSCS student Web Developer is also a Concert Violinist

We are pleased to announce that one of our new Computer Science graduate students, Asaad Saad, a Web Developer from Aleppo, Syria, is also a professional violinist with the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra. On November 8th he presented a classical concert, "Food for the soul..." for the MUM community in Dalby Hall in the MUM Argiro Student Center. The concert was performed with local violinist Paean Lee and featured works by Bach, Oscar Rieding, Jules Massenet, Antonio Vivaldi, and Omar Khairat. NEWS! We are adding a 4th entry to the MS in Computer Science for Computer Professionals program in 2015

To handle increasing applications, starting in February 2015, MUM will have four MS in Computer Science entries per year: February, May, August & November 2015. We still have an October 2014 entry, which will be the largest entry in our history!

U.S. News picks "Software Developer" as the #1 Best Job in America for 2014.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts there will be nearly 140,000 brand new software developer positions created before 2022 (22.8 percent employment growth). The profession's superb job prospects, low unemployment rate and excellent median salary helped it grab the coveted No. 1 spot in their ranking of the Best Jobs of 2014. See article.

Greg Clarke-Johnsen, Director of MUM Computer Science Admissions, retires

A Farewell Party was held for Greg Clarke-Johnsen, Director of MUM Computer Science Admissions. He and his wife, Christine, (in front of Greg) are retiring to Vancouver Island, Canada to pursue art full-time. Greg was Director for ~10 years and will be missed. See more photos here.

New Computer Science Building Planned at Maharishi University of Management

The Computer Professionals MS program at Maharishi University of Management is our largest academic program. We have graduated more than 1,300 students since 1996, with more than 500 currently enrolled. The program attracts students from all over the world, and has given them paths to success at more than 1,000 US companies and organizations.

The MSCS program is also our fastest growing program.. Enrollment has expanded from around 160 new students per year over the past few years, to over 300 this year, and we expect enrollment to continue growing over the next three years. We need to support this rapid expansion with more top-level faculty, additional courses, and classrooms and labs.

The 12,000 square foot McLaughlin Building, inaugurated in 2002 created a beautiful home for the program.  An additional new 18,000 square foot building, built next to the McLaughlin Building will accommodate this growth for the next five years.

Jim Carrey Creates Happiest Graduation Ever at Maharishi University of Management

Maharishi University of Management (http://www.mum.edu) granted degrees to 285 students representing 54 countries. Jim Carrey gave the commencement address to Maharishi University of Management's class of 2014. The University Board of Trustees also presented Mr. Carrey with the honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts Honoris Causa, in recognition of his significant lifetime achievements as a world-renowned comedian and actor, artist, author and philanthropist.

We are pleased to announce that Jim Carrey, award-winning actor, author, and philanthropist, will be the commencement speaker at Maharishi University of Management's graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 24, 2014.

For more than three decades, Mr. Carrey has brought laughter and happiness to hundreds of millions of people all over the globe. In recognition of his significant lifetime achievement and the joyful gifts he has given to the world, the University Board of Trustees will present Mr. Carrey with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa.

Mr. Carrey spoke last fall to students in the new David Lynch Master's in Film program at Maharishi University of Management. He has actively supported the David Lynch Foundation's campaign to bring the Transcendental Meditation technique to at-risk young people, veterans with PTSD, and women and children who are survivors of domestic abuse.

Int'l Cyber-Security Educator, Eduard Babulak, DSc, PhD, Joins Faculty

The MUM Computer Science Department is pleased to introduce and welcome a new faculty member, Eduard Babulak, DSc, PhD. Dr. Babulak is a renowned international educator and scholar in the important area of "Computer-Cyber Security in conjunction with Future Computer Networks, Internet and Ubiquitous Smart Computing."

He will be teaching Computer Security and Computer Networks classes, and will promote the creation of a new program in "Cyber Security and Ubiquitous Smart Computing." Developers trained in this increasingly important area will be in high demand worldwide. Read more here.

Distinguished International Computer Security Expert, Eduard Babulak, PhD, DSc, is joining the MUM Computer Science Faculty

Professor Babulak will arrive in Fairfield in April 2014.

Professor Eduard Babulak is an accomplished international scholar, researcher, consultant, educator, professional engineer and polyglot with more than thirty seven years of teaching experience and industrial experience as a professional engineer and consultant. He was Invited Speaker at University of Cambridge, MIT, Yokohama National University and University of Electro Communications in Japan, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, University at West Indies and Penn State, USA.

Prof. Babulak’s research interests are in Future Networks and Quality of Service (QoS) Provision, Cyberspace Security, Cyberspace Security Policies, Computer Emergency Response Teams, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Next Generation of Information Communications Technologies (ICT) and e-Services (e-Health, e-Learning, e-Transport, e-Manufacturing, e-Commerce and e-Government), Ubiquitous and Human Centric Computing, Automation and Applied Mathematics.Prof. Babulak was awarded higher postdoctoral degree DOCENT - Doctor of Science (DSc) in 2008 in the Czech Republic. While in UK he was awarded PhD in 2003, MSc in 1991 and High National Certificate (HNC) in 1990. He completed his Electrical Engineering degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in 1982 in Slovakia. Prof. Babulak academic and engineering work was recognized internationally by the Engineering Council in UK, the European Federation of Engineers and credited by the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and APEG in British Columbia in Canada.

Prof. Babulak worked as a Director of Japan Pacific ICT Centre, Head of School and Full Professor of Computing Science & Information Systems at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. He served as Director of Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (PacCERT) Interim Board. As a First Director of Japan Pacific ICT Centre he was responsible for $22 million US dollars ICT Project sponsored by the Japanese Government and JICA.

Prof. Babulak was Guest Professor at the Graz University of Technology (Austria), held five Visiting Professorships, including, Visiting Professorship at the Fairleigh Dickinson University in Vancouver (Canada), the University of Economics in Prague (Czech Republic), the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), the University of Pardubice (Czech Republic), the University of Quebec in Rimouski (Canada).

Prof. Babulak is Fellow of British Computer Society, Fellow of Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce in UK, Nominated Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Nominated Distinguished Member of the ACM, Chair of the IEEE Vancouver Ethics, Professional and Conference Committee, Mentor and Senior Member of IEEE and ACM, member of American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), American Mathematical Association (AMA) and Mathematical Society of America (MSA).

Prof. Babulak serves as the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, Co-Editor, Guest Editor and speaks 14 languages. His biography was cited in the Cambridge Blue Book, Cambridge Index of Biographies and number of issues of Who’s Who.

"Fairfield has a quiet, peaceful environment with great beauty, and the people here are warm and great. This community is awesome. I have made friends with people from different countries and am loving it here. I will miss this a lot when I leave," says Stanley.

When Stanley left his native Kenya in June 2013 to come to MUM, it was his first time on an airplane. His goal is to get into the software development business, try out a few ideas, and hopefully help some of his Kenyan friends take their first airplane to the U.S. and MUM. See the story.
